We have established the Centro Desideri, where workshops are held to teach English, computer literacy, cooking, arts and crafts, and a variety of other subjects; built an infirmary at the Centro Desideri with storage space for medicines and supplies; purchased musical instruments requested by the community; build a carpentry workshop with a grant from the German government; organized the collection and distribution of clothing to needy families.
We have facilitated the acquisition of basic nutritional staples; served healthy meals at Centro Desideri to the local communities; financed the construction of a brick oven to provide bread for the local population; built farm fishery and a hen house to supplement the local population’s diet.
Health and Hygiene
We have provided basic health and hygiene supplies, such as aspirin, bandages, rubbing alcohol, topical ointments, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and soap; developed a free health program with visiting doctors under the direction of Dr Fernando Ortega; financed the construction of sanitary facilities, including showers, sinks, and toilets; invested funds from Pediatric Global International for the establishment of a medicinal herb garden. Didier Lacaze, an expert in herbal medicine, tought the tribes about the healing properties of medicinal herbs and their uses, an ancient knowledge lost to the younger generation of tribal members but one which remains important in their lives because there is not easy access to modern medicine.
We signed on a Partnership with the University of Samorano for a Summer camp in the Centro Desideri which included 50 local children; provided computers, books and study materials, including notebooks, pens, pencils, and erasers for use by local village schools; hosted volunteer teachers in different disciplines to conduct workshops for the local population; run after-school programs at the Centro Desideri in collaboration with the local public high school, Amauta Ñampi.
